Transcription rates

Transcription pricing is tailored to suit specific customers’ needs, and is charged per audio hour or per page, depending on client preference.

There are no hidden costs. Many of our competitors quote a low rate per hour, but then include a monster called “transcription time”. Once this is factored into the rate, the client ends up paying more than they expected. We believe in transparency and should a client chose the per audio hour pricing, the client will know upfront what the project will cost by means of applying a simple calculation – rate charged multiplied by duration of recording divided by 60.

Should the client prefer a per page rate, this is more difficult to estimate. Experience has taught us that one hour of audio should produce approximately 50 pages of transcript, but this depends on the clarity of the recording, if parties interrupt each other, and if there are long pauses whilst notes are taken.

Should you require your document to be in a different format to that stated above, kindly communicate your requirements to us and we will provide you with a tailored quote.

Our rates are subject to the following:

  • Type of transcription (i.e. disciplinary, focus group, interview, meeting)

  • Turnaround time

  • Clarity of recording

Turnaround Time (TAT)

Rule of thumb is that it takes approximately 4 hours to transcribe 1 hour of audio. This obviously varies depending on the clarity of the audio, whether speakers interrupt each other, whether there are difficult accents to contend with, and whether there are long pauses whilst notes are taken.

  • Normal TAT - 2 working days per audio hour

  • Urgent TAT - 1 days per audio hour

  • Running TAT - ½ day per audio hour
